In other words, it is a land-grant university. Story County was selected as a site on June 21, 1859, and the original farm of 648 acres was purchased for a cost of $5,379. The Farm House is the first building on the Iowa State campus and it was completed in 1861.

Iowa State Scholarships

Iowa State is committed to enrolling a diverse and talented student population. International freshmen will be considered for a limited number of merit scholarships. Students must complete the OneApp scholarship application to be considered for the award.

Every semester, the International Students and Scholars Office of Iowa State University awards scholarships to degree-seeking students who have a recorded financial need.
