Iowa State University (formerly Iowa Agricultural College and Model Farm) was officially established on March 22, 1858, by the legislature of the State of Iowa. In other words, it is a land-grant university. Story County was selected as a site on June 21, 1859, and the original farm of 648 acres was purchased for a cost of $5,379. The Farm House is the first building on the Iowa State campus and it was completed in 1861.

Iowa State University is a place where students get a great academic start in learning communities and stay active in over 800 plus student organizations, undergrad research, internships, and abroad study. At Iowa State University, students learn from world-class scholars who are currently some of the world’s biggest challenges like feeding the hungry, finding alternative fuels, and advancing manufacturing and technology.

Iowa State Scholarships

Iowa State is committed to enrolling a diverse and talented student population. International freshmen will be considered for a limited number of merit scholarships. Scholarship selection is competitive and is based on a holistic review of SAT or ACT scores and high school marks/grades. Students must complete the OneApp scholarship application to be considered for the award.

Every semester, the International Students and Scholars Office of Iowa State University awards scholarships to degree-seeking students who have a recorded financial need. The International Students and Scholars Office awards multiple scholarships from a wide variety of funding sources. However, a large portion of these scholarship funds come from International Student Tuition.
