APPLICATION-BASED ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIPS

  1. Major Entrance Scholarships
    This scholarship is for a Canadian citizen or permanent resident studying full-time at a Canadian secondary school, can apply for a Major Entrance Scholarship. These awards are given to applicants who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, and exceptional leadership, and community involvement.

Criteria

  • Be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant.
  • Be in their final year of secondary school, entering their first undergraduate university degree.
  • Demonstrate personal leadership and excellence in extracurricular activities beyond academic requirements, and/or significant contributions to community or family.
  • Have earned a minimum of 85 percent in the best six 4U or 4M courses.

Application Process

To apply for a Major Entrance Scholarship, applicants are to go directly to the Ontario Tech applicant portal. You must have applied to Ontario Tech University to be considered for this award.

Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships

The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (CGS) program aims to attract and retain world-class doctoral students by supporting students who demonstrate both leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies in the social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, engineering, and health. Applicants wishing to apply for a Vanier CGS must do so through the Canadian university to which they are pursuing doctoral studies.

Application process

Applicants must be nominated by the institution at which they wish to study and hold the award. Also, candidates should receive the endorsement of SGPS through faculty selection and a university-wide selection process.
Submit a completed Vanier CGS application using the ResearchNet application system.

Value: Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships are valued at $50,000 per year for up to three years.


Eligibility

To be considered for a Vanier CGS, applicants must be nominated by only one Canadian university, which has received a Vanier CGS allocation. Applicants must be seeking financial support to pursue their first doctoral degree (or combined MA/Ph.D. or MD/Ph.D.). Note that only the Ph.D. portion of a combined degree is eligible for funding. The candidate must have completed no more than 20 months of doctoral studies as of May 1, 2021 (calculating months of doctoral studies). Also, the candidate must have achieved a first-class average (A-) in each of the last two years of full-time study or equivalent. Not hold, or have held, a doctoral-level scholarship or fellowship from CIHR, SSHRC, or NSERC to undertake or complete a doctoral degree.
