Eligibility:

Nationality: All candidates, from any nation, are eligible for this program. None of the candidates, including their parents, maybe Korean citizens. A candidate is unable to apply if he or she, or any of his or her parents, have dual citizenship (both citizenship in Korea and citizenship in another nation). Documentation demonstrating the renunciation of Korean citizenship is required from applicants and their parents who previously had Korean citizenship.

Education Level: An Associate degree program or a Bachelor’s degree program is open to applicants who have graduated from high school or who are anticipated to do so. Only applicants who have completed or are anticipated to complete an associate degree program are eligible to apply for bachelor’s degree programs. Students who anticipate receiving their diplomas by August 31st, 2022, must first apply.

Grades: All candidates must have maintained a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) from their prior degree program that is equal to or higher than ONE of the following. Application for an Associate Degree from a High School Candidates for a bachelor’s degree must have completed high school or an associate degree. A CGPA of at least 2.64/4.0, 2.80/4.3, 2.91/4.5, or 3.23/5.0 is required. The scoring percentage must be 80% or above on a scale of 100 points, or the student must place in the top 20% of their class.

A candidate must produce extra official documentation from their individual institution if their transcript does not contain information on CGPA or if they are unable to convert their grades into one of the recognized GPA scales (4.0, 4.3, 4.5, 5.0, or 100-point scale).

Health: To study in Korea for the entirety of the program, all applicants must be in good physical and mental health. In the last phase of selection, applicants will be dismissed if they are discovered to fit one of the following criteria: A candidate’s drug test results come back positive, a candidate with a significant disease that prohibits them from pursuing a degree or training in the Korean language abroad for an extended length of time, including the whole program.

Form 8 (Personal Medical Assessment) is a requirement for all candidates at the time of application. Candidates that make it through the second stage of selection are required to undergo a thorough medical examination and submit an Official Medical Examination provided by a licensed medical doctor.

NIIED receives applications from Korean Embassies or domestic universities that recommend potential candidates. Therefore, applicants must submit their applications with all required documents to partner universities in Korea.

Required Documents: Applicant Form (Form 1), Personal Statement (Form 2), Study Plan (Form 3), Single letter of Recommendation (Form 4), GKS Applicant Agreement (Form 5), Personal Medical Assessment (Form 6), Applicant’s Proof of Citizenship Document (birth certificates or family registrar, passport copy, etc.), Certificate of graduation (or expected graduation certificate), Transcript; Applicant’s Parent’s Proof of Citizenship Document (birth certificates or family registrar, passport copy, etc.), Proof of Age, Proof of Overseas Korean, Proof of Korean Citizenship Renunciation Document, Proof of Korean War Veteran’s Descendant, Awards and other certificates (Optional), Certificate of valid TOPIK score (Optional), Certificate of valid English Proficiency Test such as TOEIC, TOEFL, IELTS, etc. (Optional).
Deadline: Only once a year is the Korean government’s scholarship program offered.
